About
Amsterdam Noord has undergone a quiet transformation. Once defined by its shipyards and factories, the area has evolved into a hub for art, culture, and experimentation, without losing its industrial soul. That contrast, and the tension between past and present, is what inspired AMS Noord, a visual culture magazine exploring the creative re-use of this unique part of the city.
We set out to tell the story of Noord through the people shaping it today: artists, curators, and cultural producers who have made these repurposed spaces their own. The magazine blends photography, interviews, and archival material to document a district in flux, where concrete shells and warehouse walls are being reimagined into something new.
We led the entire creative direction of the project; from shaping the editorial approach to capturing most of the visuals. We also interviewed local artists and industry professionals, weaving their perspectives throughout the issue to give a deeper sense of place. A handful of historical images sourced from the Amsterdam City Archive were layered in to provide context and contrast.
AMS Noord is as much about space as it is about identity – how cities change, who gets to shape them, and what traces are left behind.
